To the cop who drove past me going south on Old Homestead Road.
You do know it's not safe to drive so closely behind another vehicle, don't you?
If the driver in front of you had braked you would NEVER have been able to stop in time, considering the speed you were travelling and the proximity to the bumper in front of you.
She was up so close to the truck in front of her, it was like a dog nosing another dog's ass.
I would have thought that police officers like her would want to set an example and NOT tailgate.
I guess I was wrong...how foolish of me.
Let me get this straight....
The underage driver, who crashed after Constable Garret Styles tried to grab the keys in the ignition, should be charged with murder, according to the York Regional Police.
On the other hand, Trevor Middleton, who went out one night with the expressed intent of assaulting Asians (he used the disgusting racist term 'nip-tipping' or 'nipper-tipping') was only convicted of Assault and Criminal Negligence?
Trevor Middleton nearly killed people after he deliberately drove his vehicle like a weapon, yet the police never even charged him with attempted murder.
Why the disparity?
The first crime, though tremendously sad, does not seem to be a premeditated act of violence, racist or otherwise.
The kid was illegally driving a car under the influence of alcohol, and he got caught, which led to a horrible tragedy that left him with a LIFE SENTENCE in a wheelchair as a quadriplegic, and, sadly, left Garret Style's children without a father.
So far, I've seen no evidence that the underage driver plotted or intended to murder Constable Styles, and I don't expect that to change.
The young man screwed up royally, to be sure, but it was an ACCIDENT by any account revealed so-far to the public.
An accident that Garret Styles may well have played a part in.
Should we, the taxpayers, foot the bill for taking care of the underage driver's voluminous medical needs in a prison setting?
Trevor Middleton planned and carried out a violent racist attack using a vehicle, yet I can't remember any calls in the media from police to have HIM charged with attempted murder.
Why not?
It seems to me that the lesson that will be learned by the population at large is this:
The police around here value their own safety, while caring little for ours.
Is that really the message we, here in York Region, want to be sending out to the world?
Before we condemn a quadriplegic for the crime of homicide, maybe we should all wait to hear what the THREE SURVIVING WITNESSES saw and heard.
I also think it would do the community a greater service to have this crippled* kid out among his peers, where they can see the result of his actions daily.
Perhaps it would serve as a warning to others not to drive while impaired.
As for Trevor Middleton...less than two years for destroying so many lives?
It hardly seems fair, does it?
Why the disparity?
*Yes, I am aware that the term 'crippled' is seen by some as offensive. I apologize if my choice of words offends you, but the kid was the author of his own misfortune, and I thought the term appropriate given the circumstances.
He knew he shouldn't be driving, and NOBODY should drive impaired.
I used the term 'crippled' to reflect the HORROR that other potential underage drunk drivers might feel at seeing a quadriplegic they'd known before he was injured.
