[link]Doctor Robert Elgie, lawyer, neurosurgeon and former politician, has died at age 84.
Known for many achievements in his life, he will be remembered by me as the guy who, when I called to speak to his wife (School Board Trustee Nancy Elgie), recounted a story about his relative, or in-law, who would ride home from the lake wearing a speedo.
The neighbours used to call the speedo wearer a "nudist", chuckled Mr. Elgie.
I interrupted his merriment at recalling these gossip-mad prudes from his past to remind Mr. Elgie that, although it might be amusing to him that his relative had been called a "nudist", what I was being falsely accused of is a CRIME.
I relayed the story that Mr. Elgie told me to a number of people, including some members of the Catholic School Board, and the York Regional Police force.
As is often the case with GOSSIPS, the police and the Catholic School Board started spreading a story insinuating that I had been the one, as "detective" Peter Duguay said, who had been "riding around town wearing a thong"...
Their ears apparently slammed shut after they heard the word 'bike', 'speedo' and 'nudist', but they couldn't even get the 'speedo' part right.
So, very very close to professional, while simultaneously lacking any moral integrity.
So, Robert Elgie is dead, but his story lives on, as a mutated tale, told by rumour-mongers and vicious gossips, at great expense to honest law-abiding tax-payers.
